REINER STACH
In conversation with BERTA VIAS MAHOU
Bizkaia Aretoa · Sala Mitxelena
CITIZEN K
Kafka’s life (1883-1924) is inextricably linked to his work. Beyond over-interpretations, it is so because that is how the author considered it, who went so far as to say, “All I am is literature”. Hundreds of biographies have been written about Kafka, but the one by Reiner Stach, who spent a decade composing more than two thousand pages of his monumental ‘Kafka’, is considered the ultimate. Thanks to the work of our guest, facets of the Czech author have been discovered that delve into his luminous aspects and have contributed to changing the gloomy image that is often held over him. In his essay ‘Is that Kafka?’, Stach even refers to the “Kafkaesque sense of comedy”, which he considers an essential aspect of his work. Berta Vias Mahou, writer and translator of prominent German-language authors, will accompany him in discussing Citizen K.
