His first book, \u2018Historia Argentina\u2018, chosen by critics as the narrative revelation of 1991, was published in Spain by Anagrama, first in 1993 and, in a revised and expanded version, in 2009. His books \u2018Esperanto\u2019, \u2018La velocidad de las cosas\u2019, \u2018Mantra\u2019 (New Talent Award Fnac 2002), \u2018Jardines de Kensington\u2019 (Lateral Narrative Prize 2004, shortlisted for the Jos\u00e9 Manuel Lara Foundation Prize), \u2018El fondo del cielo\u2019 and the three-volume collection \u2018La Parte Contada\u2019,<br \/>comprising \u2018La parte inventada\u2019 (Best Translated Book Award 2018, USA), \u2018La parte so\u00f1ada\u2019 and \u2018La parte recordada\u2019. His latest novel is Melvill. In 2017, Fres\u00e1n was awarded the Prix Roger Caillois in France for his entire oeuvre as an \u201catypical, transgressive and inescapable writer\u201d. He also works as a translator and writes as a cultural journalist for the Argentinian newspaper P\u00e1gina 12, the magazine Letras Libres and the cultural supplement of the newspaper ABC.
