He studied Fine Arts in Cuenca, where he met Ernesto Sevilla, who introduced him to \u2018La hora chanante\u2019, a programme that influenced the humour of a whole generation. Led by Joaqu\u00edn Reyes and co-hosted by Ernesto Sevilla, Ra\u00fal Cimas and Juli\u00e1n L\u00f3pez, among other contributors, it was followed by the programmes \u2018Muchachada Nui\u2019 and \u2018Museo Coconut\u2019. In 2008, Areces participated in the cast of \u00c1lex de la Iglesia&#8217;s series \u2018Plut\u00f3n BRB Nero\u2019. Since then, he has been a regular actor in his films: \u2018Balada triste de trompeta\u2019, \u2018Las brujas de Zugarramurdi\u2019, \u2018Mi gran noche\u2019. He has also appeared in many Spanish comedies (\u2018Torrente 4\u2019 and \u2018Torrente 5\u2019, by Santiago Segura; \u2018Los amantes pasajeros&#8217;, by Pedro Almodovar; \u2018Negociador\u2019, by Borja Cobeaga) and series such as \u2018La que se avecina\u2019, &#8217;30 monedas\u2019 and \u2018El pueblo\u2019. As an illustrator and comic artist, he has contributed to several fanzines and magazines, such as El Jueves and Fotogramas.
