He began working in the seventies as a founder and actor in C\u00f3micos de la Legua and Karraka, two independent theatre groups in the Basque Country. Barea also stands out as a playwright and theatre director. He has adapted and performed plays by great playwrights: Ch\u00e9jov, Valle-Incl\u00e1n, Fernando Fern\u00e1n-G\u00f3mez or Juan Mayorga. In 2013, he was awarded the National Theatre Prize. He has participated in television series and has appeared in more than a hundred films directed by Julio M\u00e9dem, \u00c1lex de la Iglesia, Imanol Uribe, Juanma Bajo Ulloa and Borja Cobeaga, among others.
