KIRMEN URIBE

It would be interesting if Miguel Aizpuru asked Kirmen Uribe whether a boy from Ondarroa like him, born in 1970 into a family of fishermen, ever imagined that he would win the Spanish National Narrative Prize for a novel about his origins, written during a flight between Bilbao and New York. Or that he would end up living in that great city, teaching at New York University and seeing one of his poems published in the anthology edited by The New Yorker for its centenary.

We will explore his narrative and poetic work with him, as well as the importance of humour in his literature. His participation coincides with the premiere of “Karmele” by Asier Altuna, based on his novel “La hora de despertarnos juntos” (The Time to Wake Up Together), set partly in New York.

Event in Basque. Free admission until full capacity is reached. Book signing.
