JAVIER JAÉN · ROUND ONE

The graphic artist Javier Jaén (Barcelona, 1983) is, according to Forbes magazine, one of the most internationally renowned Spanish creatives. He translates complex stories and concepts into images. He does so with the help of everyday materials – objects, icons, words – in a symbolic and playful language, full of double interpretations. His work can be seen daily in national and international media, in bookshops, cinemas, theatres, museums, T-shirts, music shops, airports or at bus stops.

He has worked for The New York Times, The New Yorker, The Washington Post, La Vanguardia, El País, Random House Mondadori, Planeta, Vueling Airlines, Unesco and Greenpeace. He is the author of the well-known poster of the lactating nipple for Almodóvar’s film ‘Madres paralelas’. His work has been internationally acclaimed and has been included in exhibitions in New York, London, Mexico, El Salvador, Tallinn, Seoul, Rotterdam, Paris and Rome.

He published his first career retrospective precisely 30 years after his first tooth fell out. He has not yet written a child, planted a book or given birth to a tree.   In 2022, he presented his first retrospective exhibition at our festival, culminating in January 2023 at the Actual Festival in Logroño as his first travelling destination.

TECHNICAL DATA

The exhibition brings together nearly 250 artworks, including models of previously completed projects, audiovisuals, sculptures, prints and objects, using a variety of supports and materials, which provide an overview of the artist’s professional career.

It was conceived to occupy an exhibition area of around 200 m2 but can be adapted to many different spaces. The adaptation design, carried out by the same studio that initially conceived the exhibition, is included in the contract conditions.
