Sara García Alonso

(León, 1989) is a scientific researcher at the Spanish National Cancer Research Centre (CNIO) and has been a member of the European Space Agency’s (ESA) astronaut reserve since 2022, when she became the first Spanish woman to achieve this distinction. She holds a degree in Biotechnology from the University of León, where she graduated top of her class, and a PhD cum laude from the University of Salamanca, where she received the Extraordinary Doctorate Award for the best thesis in Medicine. Her professional career has focused on cancer research, leading personalised medicine projects and exploring new cancer treatments. She combines her scientific work with specialised training at the European Astronaut Centre in Cologne, Germany, and is actively involved in science communication, particularly aimed at young people. In 2025, she published her first book, Órbitas.
