Juan Ignacio Pérez Iglesias

(Salamanca, 1960) holds a PhD in Biology and is Professor of Physiology at the University of the Basque Country – UPV/EHU, and served as its Dean from 2004 to 2009. He has directed the Chair of Scientific Culture at this university since its creation in 2010. A media contributor to El Correo, Deia, Onda Cero and Radio Euskadi, he frequently publishes popular scientific articles and columns on science in magazines such as Naukas, Vozpópuli o The Conversation. He is also the author of ‘Animales ejemplares’ (Next Door, 2020) and ‘Primates al este del Edén’ (Crítica, 2023), and co-author, along with Joaquín Sevilla, of ‘Los males de la ciencia’ (Next Door, 2022), among other books. In 2024, he was appointed Minister of Science, Universities and Innovation of the Basque Government.
