We are organising what will undoubtedly be one of the largest group exhibitions in Europe in 2024 to commemorate Franz Kafka’s centennial. The exhibition, entitled ‘Kaleidoscope Kafka’, will explore the life and work of the brilliant Czech author through the eyes of more than twenty artists: Robert Crumb, Miquel Barceló, Paco Roca, Max, Ana Juan, Fernando Vicente, Luis Scafati, Peter Kuper, Renáta Fučíková, Fernando Falcone, Tavo Montáñez, Tom Gauld, Nicolas Mahler, Jaromír 99, Federico Delicado, Antonio Santos, Tomas Hijo, Sara Morante, David de las Heras, Manuel Marsol, Manu Quintero, Miguel Almagro, Javier Jaén, Joaquín Pertierra, Álex Orbe and Asier Sanz

Kafka’s life and work will be of particular interest when comparing the diverse interpretations of these authors on aspects of the same work – ‘The Metamorphosis’, ‘The Castle’, ‘The Trial’, ‘America’, ‘A Hunger Artist’, among others – as well as when it comes to portraying Kafka himself.

The exhibition will consist of original works and material, reproductions and audiovisuals, as well as various objects inspired by the Kafkaesque universe that we will showcase for the event. It will be on display, free of charge, in the Axular, Etxepare and annexe rooms (250 square metres) of the Bizkaia Aretoa UPV/EHU throughout the month of October.

Ten illustrations, selected from the exhibition and based on several of Kafka’s portraits, will be on display in large-format reproductions in some Metro Bilbao station foyers (Casco Viejo/ San Mamés/ Abando) during the months of October and November.
