Andrés Barba

(Madrid, 1975) A graduate of Philology from the Complutense University, he made his name as a writer in 2001 with ‘La hermana de Katia’ (finalist for the Herralde Novel Prize). Most of his work is published by Anagrama. His books include the novels ‘En presencia de un payaso’ and ‘República luminosa’ (Herralde Novel Prize, Prix Frontières and runner-up for the Gregor von Rezzori Prize), the essays ‘La ceremonia del porno’ (co-written with Javier Montes; Anagrama Essay Prize) and ‘La risa caníbal’ (Alpha Decay) as well as the literary biography Vida de Guastavino y GuastavinoHe has also written poetry —his latest poetry collection is ‘Los años frente al Puente’ (La Bella Varsovia, 2024)— and is a translator of authors such as Melville, James, Conrad and De Quincey. He has been a visiting professor at Princeton University, and he has held fellowships and been an artist-in-residence at the Rockefeller Foundation, the Spanish Academy in Rome, and the New York Public Library.
