Berta Vias Mahou

(Madrid, 1961), a graduate of Ancient History, is a writer and translator of authors such as Stefan Zweig, Arthur Schnitzler, Joseph Roth, and Goethe. Her books include the novels ‘Leo en la cama’ (Espasa, 1999), ‘Venían a buscarlo a él’ (Acantilado, 2010; 2011 Dulce Chacón Prize for Spanish Fiction), y ‘Yo soy El Otro’ (Acantilado, 2015; XXVITorrente Ballester Prize for Fiction and Prix Transfuge), ‘Una vida prestada’ (Lumen, 2018) and ‘La voz de entonces’ (Lumen, 2022); the short story books ‘Ladera norte’ (Acantilado, 2001) and ‘La mirada de los Mahuad’ (Lumen, 2016); and the essays ‘La imagen de la mujer en la literatura’ (Anaya, 2000) y ‘Cocina de autor’ (along with Antón Casariego; Ladera Norte, 2023).
