Carlos Areces
Born in Madrid in 1976. He studied Fine Arts in Cuenca, where he met Ernesto Sevilla, who introduced him to ‘La hora chanante’, a programme that influenced the humour of a whole generation. Led by Joaquín Reyes and co-hosted by Ernesto Sevilla, Raúl Cimas and Julián López, among other contributors, it was followed by the programmes ‘Muchachada Nui’ and ‘Museo Coconut’. In 2008, Areces participated in the cast of Álex de la Iglesia’s series ‘Plutón BRB Nero’. Since then, he has been a regular actor in his films: ‘Balada triste de trompeta’, ‘Las brujas de Zugarramurdi’, ‘Mi gran noche’. He has also appeared in many Spanish comedies (‘Torrente 4’ and ‘Torrente 5’, by Santiago Segura; ‘Los amantes pasajeros’, by Pedro Almodovar; ‘Negociador’, by Borja Cobeaga) and series such as ‘La que se avecina’, ’30 monedas’ and ‘El pueblo’. As an illustrator and comic artist, he has contributed to several fanzines and magazines, such as El Jueves and Fotogramas. He is a member of the music group Ojete Calor, together with Aníbal Gómez.
